Tools Service, Incorporated, a leader in the automotive and machine
tools industries, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1998.
PTS was formed as a union between Toyo Corporation, Marubeni Corporation,
and Marubeni America Corporation in 1988. Today, PTS is a top distribution
company that specializes in the supply of precision metric tools
such as milling tools, measuring equipment, power tools, and other
smaller
tools.
The recent trend of many Japanese metal-processing industries going
abroad has generated an increasing need for small parts and metric
tools. Those companies have invested substantial time, effort,
and money for machinery and processing equipment. As they invest
more
in international operations, they start experiencing problem in
purchasing various small precision metric tools. PTS has recognized
this need
and is designed to assist in the supply of the small tools. PTS
utilizes Just-in-Time concept, which is based on Toyo’s know-how, in order
to meet customers’ requirements. Also, in recent years, the
company has been expanding itself by opening new offices in Thailand
and UK
in addition to eight US offices so that it can provide better service.
Toyo Corporation is a Japan-based distribution company that specialized
in machine tools and precision measuring tools. For the last 45
years, Toyo has been supplying precision and small tools primarily
for Japanese
automotive industry. Toyo is now enjoying the annual business volume
of $415 million (2002) with its motto of “customer service
oriented.”
Established in 1889, Marubeni Corporation is one of the largest
trading companies in Japan called Sogo-Shosha. Along with 34 domestic
offices
in Japan, Marubeni now has over 158 overseas offices. Marubeni
also has over 300 subsidiary companies worldwide. In 1999 Marubeni
had annual
revenue of $90 billion.
The other party in this joint venture is Marubeni America Corporation,
which was founded in 1951 as the US-based subsidiary of Marubeni
Corporation. With its main office located in New York City, New
York, Marubeni America
has branch offices throughout the US. Marubeni America continues
to strive for improvement and achievement of greater business growth
for
its customers. Marubeni America accumulated annual sales in 1999
of $7.5 billion, making itself the largest exporter of its kind
in the
United States.
