Safety Skills Builder (2 Day)
Introduction
In this (2) day course, Students will learn the requirements, methods and practical application of machine and process safeguarding. Students will be introduced to applicable regulatory requirements to help them identify and assess machine safety risks, deploy
safeguarding concepts based on identified risks and participate in a basic machine guarding inspection process
Objectives
Upon completion of this class, the student should be able to:
• Comprehend expectations for machine safety
• Identify hazards in your facility
• Assess risk on identified hazards and perform a basic machine guarding inspections
• Recognize applicable machine safeguarding regulations and census standards
• Identify appropriate risk reduction measures and commensurate with level of risk
• Understand/apply the hierarchy of controls
Outline
• A practical approach to risk assessment & risk reduction utilizing quantifying techniques
• Identify machine and process hazards following general safe-guarding regulations
• Identify safeguarding requirements using applicable safeguarding regulations and standards
• Safety circuit categories / control reliability reviewed and applied in safeguarding class
discussions
• Hierarchy of controls / safeguarding methods applied based on risk discussions
• Muting vs. bypassing of safeguarding solutions
• Requirements for barrier guards following OSHA and ANSI or other applicable standards
from country origins
• Stop time measurements and safety distance formulas discussed
• Types of stops including Estops
• General requirements of machine tools
• Complementary controls discussed including Enabling switch and two hand control devices
• Workshop (Team assessment on shop floor)
Course Fee: $568.00 per person / 10 Student Max
Course Fees
Course Fees are due at time of registration. Fees include training materials, equipment, lunch and promotional items.
Laptop Requirements – Only for PLC Classes
For all PLC classes, students bringing their own laptops must ensure they meet the following updated requirements:
- Processor: Intel i3 (10th Gen) or faster, or equivalent AMD Ryzen processor.
- Graphics: Dedicated GPU with 1GB VRAM or integrated graphics capable of running CAD-style applications.
- RAM: Minimum 8GB (16GB recommended for optimal performance).
- Storage: 5GB of free disk space.
- Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11, fully updated. Must have administrative privileges.
- Ports: At least one functional USB-A or USB-C port and a mouse. Ethernet Port or Ethernet Adapter with administrative privileges to change IP Address.
- Display Resolution: Minimum 1366×768, but 1920×1080 or higher is recommended.
- Software Requirements: CX-Programmer or Sysmac Studio pre-installed, with the latest updates. Minimum of CX-One V4 for compatibility with Sysmac Studio.
Class size is limited to 12 students. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Minimum Class sizes must be met of 6 students.
Cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the course’s starting date will be charged 25% of the course fee. No-shows will be charged 100% of the course fee. There is no penalty for attendee substitutions.
